URGENT RESCUE – Pepper, Poppy and Nutmeg

Update: Pepper’s Surgery Planning Underway 💛

We have an important update on Pepper.

Pepper is heading in for specialist x-rays so our avian vet can finalise a surgical plan for her corrective procedure. If imaging confirms what we are hoping, surgery could take place as early as next week.

This is a critical and time-sensitive step.

To date, we have raised approximately half of the funds required to proceed. We are deeply grateful for every person who has supported Pepper, Poppy and Nutmeg so far — your generosity has brought Pepper within reach of a life-changing intervention.

We are asking for additional funds because the total estimated cost of Pepper’s surgery is $3,300.
While we have already raised meaningful support, there is still a significant gap that must be met before we can confidently schedule and proceed with the operation. These funds will cover the surgical procedure itself, anaesthesia, hospital care, and immediate post-operative treatment and monitoring. As always, we do not ask for more than what is genuinely required.

Angular limb deformities place abnormal strain on joints and soft tissues. Over time, that strain can lead to worsening pain, progressive joint damage and further loss of mobility. Delays increase the risk of secondary complications and reduce the window in which corrective surgery is most effective.

If surgery cannot go ahead, Pepper’s condition is likely to deteriorate.

This operation represents her best opportunity for improved comfort, function and long-term quality of life.

We will continue to provide updates following imaging and once a final surgical plan has been confirmed.

Pepper, Poppy & Nutmeg are three female ducks who urgently need help.

They are facing a serious and distressing situation, with all three girls suffering from significant lameness that is severely impacting their ability to walk. This level of mobility impairment raises major concerns for their comfort, welfare and long-term wellbeing.

Upon rescue, Pepper, Poppy & Nutmeg will be taken immediately to a specialist avian veterinarian to investigate the underlying cause of their condition. Possible causes may include nutritional deficiencies, injury, congenital or developmental issues, infection, or musculoskeletal or neurological abnormalities. Once assessed, a tailored treatment and rehabilitation plan will be developed with the goal of giving them the very best chance at improved comfort and quality of life.
