Help Us Save Lorenzo – Our Precious, Elderly Donkey

Lorenzo is no ordinary donkey. He’s a gentle soul in his late 30s – a remarkable age for a donkey – and a cherished member of our sanctuary family. For years, he’s brought quiet joy and calm to all who’ve known him, his presence a testament to resilience, patience, and the power of love.

But now, Lorenzo is fighting for his life.

Over the past week, Lorenzo has become dangerously unwell. He stopped eating. He withdrew. His once bright spirit faded, and his usual curiosity and calm gave way to signs of deep discomfort and depression. We rushed him to hospital yesterday — his only hope.

Initial diagnostics have revealed troubling abnormalities in his blood chemistry. He’s receiving IV fluids, pain relief, and supportive care — but the truth is, we don’t yet know what’s causing his suffering. Without more advanced diagnostics, we cannot treat him. And without treatment… we will lose him.

To have a chance at saving Lorenzo’s life, we urgently need to proceed with:

Additional blood testing – $500+

A gut ultrasound – $750

X-rays – $500

His current hospital care is costing $1,500 a day, and we’ve already spent $600 on initial diagnostics. These costs are rising rapidly, but so is our desperation to give Lorenzo every single chance at surviving this.

We do have a small emergency veterinary fund, but after spending over $1,500 this past month on urgent care for Tinkerbelle, David, and Pops, it’s been depleted. We simply can’t shoulder this alone — we need help to get Lorenzo through this.

Lorenzo can’t stay in this limbo. We are running out of time. If we cannot raise the funds for these critical diagnostic procedures, we will have to make the heartbreaking decision to let him go.

We are, of course, preparing ourselves for the worst — but we are still hoping, deeply and desperately, for the best.
