How much hay did the Cranky residents eat this week!??!

The answer is 2.2 tons!!!

This week we bought the residents 3 large square bales of oaten hay at a cost of $380 each ($1,140).

These bales each weigh approximately 700kg and we spread it between 6 different feeders.

We thought maybe the residents wouldn’t be able to get through this amount of hay in a week but we were wrong.

The hay was put out on Saturday around lunch time and it was all gone by the following Friday lunch.

The also received 4 small squares of lucerne bringing the total consumed for this week to 2.2 tons.

Whilst these large bales are the most economic for us to buy they are extremely difficult for us to put out as we do not have a tractor.  We have to do it all by hand.
