🌿 In Loving Memory of Gloria
~ 2019–2025 | Forever Loved ~

Gloria came to Cranky’s FARM in 2021 under heartbreaking circumstances. She had been advertised on Gumtree as someone’s Christmas dinner — her life reduced to a festive meal. Instead, thanks to quick action and compassion, Gloria was saved and given a chance at something every animal deserves: a life of safety, dignity, and love.
When Gloria arrived, she was in desperate need of help. She had suffered a serious leg injury and required expensive, life-saving surgery. Her recovery was long and careful, but Gloria proved to be a true fighter. With patience, veterinary care, and constant support, her broken leg was successfully rehabilitated and she went on to live a full, active, and happy life. Those four extra years she gained were bright, peaceful, and filled with everything she had been denied before.
Gloria quickly became a much-loved part of the sanctuary family. She had a strong personality, a gentle presence, and a quiet confidence that made her instantly endearing. She enjoyed her daily routines, time in the sunshine, and keeping a watchful eye over her surroundings. In recent weeks, she had been very broody, steadfastly sitting on a nest despite having no eggs — a reminder of the natural instincts that remained so strong within her.
Tragically, on Monday night, Gloria’s life was taken by what we believe was a fox. Despite being carefully put into her safe night area as she always was, she managed to escape and returned to her nest in the yard. Sometime during the night, a fox discovered her and took her beyond the fence. We followed her feather trail in the hope of bringing her home, but sadly, we were unable to recover her.
Gloria was around six years old when she passed. While her loss has left an enormous ache in our hearts, we also hold deep gratitude. We are grateful that her life did not end as a Christmas meal. We are grateful that she knew care instead of cruelty, comfort instead of fear, and love instead of neglect. Most of all, we are grateful that for four precious years, Gloria lived free, safe, and deeply cherished.
Loss is one of the hardest parts of rescue. We fight so hard for every life, and sometimes, despite all our efforts, heartbreak still finds us. But Gloria’s story is one of triumph over cruelty, of compassion over convenience, and of love changing the course of a life that was never meant to be disposable.
Rest peacefully, sweet Gloria.
You were saved. You were loved.
And you will never be forgotten. 🕊️💔
