Although we try to avoid using poisons as much as possible and we employ other methods to control flies at the sanctuary, unfortunately, fly spray is a must.

Flies cause major issues for the residents, including welts, itch, open wounds, discomfort, appetite reduction and a general feeling of misery and frustration.  Some of the residents are extremely intolerant of flies and, as such, we must do our best to reduce fly numbers.

We have several cattle curtains and rubs available to the residents to allow them to self administer fly repellent.

We use rugs, fly tags and sprays in conjunction with farrowing the paddocks and ensuring fecal matter does not sit in paddocks and enclosures.

However, despite our best efforts, flies remain one of our most difficult to treat pests at the sanctuary.
